Summary
This is an entry-level role where you’ll be working outdoors performing a variety of tasks to maintain, improve, and repair our county highways.
What you'll do:
- Assist with projects like road widening, paving, chip-sealing, guardrail and drainage repair, ditch and bridge maintenance and more (duties vary seasonally).
- Direct traffic using proper signals.
- Operate essential equipment like dump trucks, skid steers, and basic forestry tools.
- Keep accurate work records and follow safety procedures.
- Be a courteous and professional representative of the Logan County Engineer's Office.
Physical Demands:
- Requires walking, standing, and lifting up to 100 pounds on uneven terrain.
- Must use hands and arms for various tasks and reach different heights.
- Good communication skills (speaking and hearing) are essential.
- The job may require frequent bending, squatting, and climbing.
- Ability to work at heights and potentially precarious locations is necessary.
Work Environment:
- The position involves regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and snow.
- May encounter moving traffic, machinery, and airborne hazards like fumes, chemicals, dust, and noise.
- Potential risks include electrical shock, vibration, and exposure to insects, pollen, and poison ivy.

Experience/Certification Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ohio driver's license
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to obtain a State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License (Class B) within six months (on-site training provided)
- Reside within a 36-minute commute of the Engineer's Office
- Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 50-100 pounds and working in varying positions
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to work overtime, including but not limited to weekends, evening hours, after the regular shift or other times determined by the County Engineer.
